The Three Brothers and the Road Home
By O. Wolfson
Three brothers set out for home. Though they shared the same road.
The first brother walked swiftly, eager to reach home as soon as possible. "I'm going to get home before the others," he thought, focusing solely on the path ahead.
The second brother, being lame, moved slowly, leaning on his crutches. Each step was difficult, but he never stopped. “Every step I take brings me closer to home,” he told himself, pressing forward with determination.
The third brother, being a curious person, walked at his own pace, marveling at the world around him. He stopped to examine a butterfly’s wings, to feel the texture of a strange stone, to listen to the wind through the trees. He never strayed from the path, but he made many stops to discover new things.
When the first brother arrived home, he crossed his arms and waited impatiently for the others. When the second finally appeared, the first brother mocked him. "You are too slow. I pity you," he said. When the third finally arrived, the first brother scolded him. "You waste too much time," he said. "If you just walked like me, you'd have been here hours ago."
Their father, hearing this, touched the first brother on the shoulder. "And yet, here you all are," he said. "Some move quickly aided by their great strength, some steadily and with admirable perseverance, some stop along the way to discover new things of value, but as long as you all stay on the path, you will always find your way home."
Moral: There are many ways to travel the road to success, but the important thing is to stay on the path.
